Hexagram 42, Yi (Increase), is Wind over Thunder - wind and thunder strengthening each other, the two forces amplifying one another. This is the hexagram of gain, of growth that comes not from taking but from giving. The judgment: 'it furthers one to undertake something' - increase invites bold, constructive action. The lines trace the nature of increase: the great deed, the unexpected enrichment, the gain that comes through hardship, and the warning of the final line - the one who increases no one and is therefore struck down. Yi teaches that true increase flows from the top down, from the giving of the privileged to the flourishing of all.
